HOT NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH TO MAKE GROUND SYSTEMS EVEN GREENER
Published on: Monday 25th January 2010

An exciting new product launch at this year’s GeoDrilling 2010 exhibition is set to take the ground source heat market by storm, as it’s the first ever to be based on glycol from a sustainable and renewable source.

Global glycol experts Kilfrost have just launched the new Thermatrans Sustain fluid as part of their recent business expansion. “We’ve been in operation for over 75 years and are proud of our great reputation in the aviation, rail, transportation and industrial sectors, but our dedicated team of research chemists are always looking for new applications for our technology and saw how effective our new glycol could be in ground source heat units” explained Kilfrost’s Heat Transfer Sales Manager Andy Murray.

“Both ground and air source pumps rely on fluid to carry the heat back into the premises to an exchanger, and both our Thermatrans Sustain and Thermatrans Plus products have been created as a high performance, multi-component heat transfer fluid. Not only do they cope brilliantly with the demands of ground source applications but both feature a dedicated inhibitor package which provides multi-metal corrosion protection, a complex preservative package which includes an anti-scaling agent and an active biocide to prevent bacteria build-up” he added.

“They are also non toxic, fully biodegradable, and non flammable so are safe to transport, handle and store, and Thermatrans Sustain is the first ever fluid in this market to boast glycol which comes from a completely sustainable and renewable source – in this case corn sugar. Both heat transfer fluids provide long and efficient protection without having to have regular change outs or top ups and we’ve even created it so that the fluid can be diluted directly on site with potable water prior to application” he added.

Kilfrost’s expert team will be on hand at stand C4 to discuss the products in more detail.
“This fluid is the first alternative to the traditional MPG which is already popular in the UK but which has a high viscosity and so takes significantly more energy to transport around the system” Andy concluded.

Kilfrost is the global market leader in the manufacture and supply of de/anti-icing fluids. The company’s diverse customer-base across 50 countries and five continents are served from facilities in the UK, Europe, North America, and Japan.
